Helping Hiring Managers Understand Recruitment Marketing

Today, I was in a meeting during which our recruitment marketing team presented what we can do to help that client’s talent acquisition team members’ lives easier.

At the end of the meeting, the client leader looks at our marketing team and goes, “Every hiring manager and recruiter needs to see what recruitment marketing is all about and how it helps them find the best talent. They don’t understand and it is so essential.”

As a recruitment marketing professional, those words are music to my ears. More often than not, hiring managers and recruiters fully don’t understand the work their recruitment marketing team is doing and how it contributes to the end product: POSITIONS FILLED.

So here it goes.  To all those hiring managers and recruiters out there, recruitment marketing is essential in the quest to find great talent and here‚Äôs why:

It gets an employer’s name in front of candidates’ eyeballs – When a company creates compelling content, that creates a peak in interest of their employer brand. When the employer brand is more noticed, more people are going to look at that content and find their way to the “Open Positions” page.

It creates meaningful relationships with candidates – Recruitment marketing gets candidates engaged and feeling like they’re a part of an employer’s brand. Relationships are the key to success in getting candidates to take any position.

It creates a sense of value proposition – When a candidate is deciding between jobs, recruitment marketing shows off the employer’s value and why they should be the #1 pick. Employers that create a compelling, authentic employment brand that communicates their values and mission are winning out in the battle for top talent.

It allows your candidate to screen you before you screen them – If the nature of a company’s workplace can be articulated with recruitment marketing, then when a candidate goes looking for that information they’ll already know what it’s like to work there.

It leads your candidates to your career site – aka the holy grail of open positions – Social is so important in recruitment marketing. All content that is created to showcase a company, including employee spotlights, open positions, blogs etc. on a company’s career site can be shared on social. This social interaction allows talent to see a company in the social space and lead that same talent back to the career site to open positions.

It helps cut through the noise and clutter – There are a lot of recruiters out there calling candidates every day and if the recruitment marketing team is doing their job, those candidates know who you are and they’ll answer your call. How so you may ask? Through the efforts of your recruitment marketing team your company is a player in the social space. Those candidates who know you when they answer your call is all because there is so much readily available content out there. Through the works of your recruitment marketing team, they have pushed out content via social that has caught their eye and made you stand out among the competition.

Recruitment marketing has emerged as the must have approach to attract, convert and engage candidates. In the world of recruiting it is all about filling the top of the funnel to retain the best talent and find that one purple squirrel. The day to day life of your recruitment marketing team is about creating, curating and pushing out content that top talent will see.  It‚Äôs this framework that allows recruiters to pick the best talent out of the funnel to take control and approach this brave new hiring world proactively ‚Äî Happy Hunting!
